Congratulations to the incredible students from around Arizona who participated in this year’s KEYS Research Internship with KEYS Research Internship and The University of Arizona and spent seven weeks during the summer working in research labs at the university to develop and complete a project! It was great to see that so many of this next generation of researchers and scientists came from D5– especially from Tucson High Magnet School and Programs, University High School, and Pueblo High School! Congratulations on the hard work, dedication, and time put into this program, and we can’t wait to see what new and amazing research you continue to develop!

Glad to attend the important conversation between my favorite Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva and Congressman Juan Ciscomani hosted by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Southeast Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. They touched on the economy, education, and immigration and both highlighted the importance of finding common ground.

Thank you to Save the Scenic Santa Ritas for taking the time to show our office the beautiful landscape we are fighting hard to protect for generations to come in the Santa Rita Mountains. Mining the Santa Ritas would lead to permanent damage to our community, destroying a crucial part of what makes our environment so beautiful.

Housing Continuum Round Table
Grateful for the opportunity to update Governor Katie Hobbs and her office on Southern Arizona’s housing policies and initiatives at a Housing Continuum Round Table with representatives from Pima County and the City of Tucson. We appreciate the Governor for listening to how our collaboration, homegrown initiatives and wrap-around services are addressing our housing crisis.

Hot Strike Summer Labor Town Hall
Proud to stand in solidarity with my labor brothers and sisters for a Hot Strike Summer event organized by IATSE415 at the IBEW Local 570 Hall. It was an honor to hear about the challenges and initiatives being undertaken by our local unions and the support they are offering to the WGA/SAG-AFTRA workers striking around the country.
Supervisor Adelita Grijalva helped open the evening’s program by reading the proclamation approved unanimously by the Pima County Board of Supervisors, proclaiming August 31, 2023, to be Overdose Awareness Day.

Cookies and cake pops with the purple ribbons that represent Overdose Awareness, and with “Hope,” the common theme for the event, were some of the many treats and refreshments offered.

Sunnyside Foundation Food Box Preparation
It was a blast to volunteer with Sunnyside Unified School District Foundation to help pack food boxes for Sunnyside families! Thanks to everyone who made today possible. It was fun to work alongside Sunnyside Unified School Board President Beki Quintero and the student volunteers.
Celebrating Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument

On September 8, President Biden and Congressman Raúl Grijalva met at the historic Red Butte airfield to designate the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. This monument, which will conserve nearly one million acres of public lands surrounding Grand Canyon National Park, protects thousands of cultural and sacred sites that are precious to the many Tribal Nations in the Southwest. This is a momentous designation and I am so proud of my dad and favorite Congressman for his tireless work over the past decade and a half on this effort. Thank you for preserving the Grand Canyon for generations to treasure. Mil gracias-We thank you!!
