Fiesta Fotográfica: El Pueblo Celebration

It was a great day to celebrate El Pueblo Neighborhood Neighborhood Center with an exhibition commemorating El Pueblo's past, present, and future through photography and storytelling. We love to see the center infused with new life.

Thank you to the organizers! Learn more about the project.

National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People

This month, District 5 brought forward a proclamation for the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. Tucson is tied for the fourth-highest MMIWG rate in the country, and the state of Arizona has the third-highest rate, according to a report by Urban Indian Health Institute.  This is a call to action for us all.

Site Visits of Community Organizations

D5 is visiting some of our community partners who provide shelter and an array of services, including the Primavera Foundation and Old Pueblo Community Services to learn more about the resources available. We toured the new Casa Alitas facility with Governor Hobbs as well in the wake of the lifting of Title 42.

TUSD's 21st Annual Mexican American/Latino Student Recognition

Honored to serve as Keynote Speaker at Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) 's 21st Annual Mexican American/Latino Student Recognition. This event was extra special because I was able to meet my son, Lito, onstage to congratulate him on his academic achievement.

PEEPS

Glad to join the Pima Early Education Program (PEEPs) Teachers’ Meeting on May 17th to help recognize our amazing preschool educators and hear some of their stories and favorite memories from the past school year! Thank you for teaching our youngest students!

2023 Salute to Centenarians

I was able to celebrate the Pima County Centenarians, community members who are over 100 years old! How incredible to be in the room with so many people who have experienced both World Wars, The Great Depression, The 1918 Pandemic, The Golden Age of Hollywood, the Civil Rights Era, and so many other important and historical events.

ONE MORE WEEK TO DONATE!
